YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program: 7 Proven Profit Wins
Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The filming gear linked below goes to Amazon.com; these are researched picks, not products we claim to have tested. YouTube’s own Shopping commissions discussed in this guide are separate from those links.
The YouTube Shopping affiliate program stopped being a big-channel perk this year. Since March 27, 2026, a channel admitted to the YouTube Partner Program at the 500-subscriber tier can join, Amazon products became taggable for US creators on August 27, and on November 3 Amazon confirmed UK creators are next.
That makes this the first Black Friday where a small review channel can earn from the products it shows without begging viewers to open the description. It is also the first one where plenty of creators will tag the wrong variant, wait four months for the money and never learn which video sold. The seven wins below prevent those mistakes, and every rule was checked against YouTube’s Help Center on November 4, 2026.

1. YouTube Shopping affiliate program eligibility right now
The YouTube Shopping affiliate program invites channels rather than reviewing applications, so eligibility works like a checklist: meet every line and a Join button appears in Studio. According to the official YouTube Shopping affiliate program eligibility page, you need all of the following:
- Membership in the YouTube Partner Program at the subscriber threshold for your YPP tier.
- A base in one of 18 markets: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States or Vietnam.
- A channel that is not a music channel, an Official Artist Channel or tied to labels, distributors, publishers or VEVO.
- An audience that isn’t set as Made for Kids, with no significant share of made-for-kids uploads.
In countries with the expanded YouTube Partner Program, the entry tier asks for 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 public watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days. That lower tier is the door that now opens the YouTube Shopping affiliate program, even for channels that can’t yet run ads.
Once eligible, open YouTube Studio, choose Earn, find the program under Programs, click Join Now and accept the terms. If a content owner or network manages your channel, that owner has to accept the agreement for you, which is the usual reason the button appears to do nothing.
Outside the 18 countries? Use the route that pays today
Canada, Australia, France, Italy and Spain are still missing from the YouTube Shopping affiliate program list. Many pages ranking for this topic still quote an old 10,000- or 15,000-subscriber bar and a 12-country map, so check the date before you trust a requirement.
If you film in Canada, the Amazon creator path in our Amazon Influencer Program Canada guide is the faster route to video commissions while you wait for YouTube to add your market.

2. Read YouTube Shopping commission rates before you forecast income
The YouTube Shopping affiliate program has no single rate. Each merchant chooses the commission and the attribution window for every product, and you see the percentage beside each offer in the Affiliate hub under Earn, then Shopping, then Explore affiliate offers, where you can sort sellers by highest commission.
The only public benchmark comes from Google’s Merchant Center documentation for the program: the median commission was around 15%, while the bottom quarter of offers paid 10% or less. Treat 15% as an optimistic planning number, because the brands your audience actually trusts may sit in that bottom quarter.
The 100% creator split is real, and temporary
Old forum threads still claim YouTube keeps roughly a third of every commission. The current Help Center wording says the opposite for now: a temporary incentive sends 100% of merchant-derived commissions to creators, YouTube says rates may fall as the program matures, and it promises at least 30 days’ notice before the change.
Read that as a launch subsidy, not a permanent feature of the YouTube Shopping affiliate program. Plan on a platform share returning at some point in 2027 and treat today’s split as upside, not as the baseline your budget depends on.
Your Black Friday money arrives in spring
YouTube Shopping affiliate program commissions are paid through AdSense for YouTube 60 to 120 days after the purchase, and returns reverse them. A tagged sale on November 27 therefore lands somewhere between late January and late March 2027. If holiday income usually covers your January bills, keep a separate cash buffer this year.
Here is an illustrative calculation, not a forecast. A $60 product at a 12% rate pays $7.20 per order. If 1,000 viewers see the tag, 3% tap it and 4% of those buy, you get 1.2 orders, or about $8.64. Swap in your own Studio numbers and you’ll see that tag click-through and buyer intent move the result far more than the headline rate does.
3. How to tag Amazon products on YouTube without losing commission
Amazon joined for US creators on August 27, 2026. Based on YouTube’s Help documentation, which PPC Land reported in detail, four conditions must all be true at the same time:
- Your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program.
- You are enrolled in the YouTube Shopping affiliate program in the United States.
- You hold an Amazon Associates or Amazon Influencer account that is active and in good standing.
- Your channel is linked to that Amazon account through your storefront’s Edit profile and Link your account flow.
Three details trip people up. Only one YouTube channel per Amazon account can tag Amazon products. Links created before September 2024 must be redone. The catalog is curated, so if a product is missing you request it through Creator Support with the product URL instead of pasting your own link.
For British creators, Retail Technology Innovation Hub reported on November 3 that Amazon is joining the UK program alongside partners such as M&S, Currys and Boots. No start date was published, so check Studio before you plan a holiday video around it.
Tag the exact Amazon variant you show
Amazon’s April 14, 2026 operating agreement update limits onsite commission to purchases of the same ASIN variant you linked, a shift we unpacked in our Amazon Associates changes breakdown. On YouTube, that means tagging the two-pack you actually used rather than the single unit, and naming the color or size out loud.
If viewers tend to switch colors, consider tagging each variant you mention. Under variant-level attribution, a buyer who taps the black model and buys the white one may not count.
Keep blog links and YouTube Shopping affiliate program tags apart
YouTube Shopping affiliate program links are for YouTube viewers only. YouTube’s terms forbid routing outside traffic to merchants with them, including posting them on websites or hiding them behind redirects, and the penalty can be losing affiliate features entirely.
Keep your regular Associates links on your site and let tags work inside the video. A description link still earns under normal Associates rules, so a tag and a description link can live on the same video without conflict.
4. Choose products by return risk and timing, not hype
Inside the YouTube Shopping affiliate program, commission rate is only one of three numbers that decide whether a tag pays. Return rate decides whether the commission survives settlement, and the attribution window decides whether a slow, careful buyer still counts.
A $40 gadget at 8% that almost nobody sends back can out-earn a $90 jacket at 15% that one in four buyers returns. Run that comparison before you film, not after the payout disappoints you.
- Favor single-configuration products. Apparel creators on Reddit describe missing commissions when buyers switch sizes, which fits variant-level attribution.
- Check Special offer promotions first. Merchants can offer custom, higher rates to specific channels, and the higher rate applies only when you tag eligible products during the campaign window.
- Request samples for serious demos. The hub lets you ask brands for samples, and footage of a product you actually used earns more trust than a held-up box.
- Retag your back catalog. Bulk tagging scans your descriptions for products you already mention, the quickest way to earn from evergreen reviews before December.
If you’re building a holiday roundup, pair the video with our Black Friday affiliate gift guide plan so the article and the video target different buyers instead of chasing the same click.

5. Film demos that make the tag the obvious next step
YouTube’s Shopping chief Travis Katz has said in-video tags draw roughly twice the engagement of description links. A tag still only gets tapped when the viewer understands why this product beats the alternative.
That is the real lesson for anyone new to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program: the tag is the checkout, but the demo is the sale. Show the problem, show the product solving it, admit one limitation, then point to the tag at that moment. Timestamps help here because the product surfaces while it is on screen, which is when interest peaks.
Clear audio, steady light and a stable top-down angle do most of the work. These are researched picks that match common demo setups:
- DJI Mic Mini (1 TX + 1 RX) – a small clip-on transmitter keeps your voice clear while your hands handle the product, which matters when viewers judge a purchase partly by what they hear.
- NEEWER 2-Pack Bi-Color 660 LED Video Light and Stand Kit – adjustable color temperature helps product colors look true on screen, which cuts the “it looked different in the video” returns that reverse commissions.
- UBeesize 92″ Phone Tripod Stand with Gooseneck – the gooseneck arm gives you an overhead angle for unboxings and close-up detail shots without building a rig.
- DJI Osmo Mobile 8 Gimbal Stabilizer – useful if your Shorts show products in use while you walk, such as luggage, strollers or outdoor gear.
For framing and honest product shots, our affiliate product photography guide and the Amazon influencer video requirements checklist apply almost unchanged to Shopping videos.
6. Disclose clearly, even when YouTube adds a label
A tag in the YouTube Shopping affiliate program is a commercial link, and the FTC’s Disclosures 101 guidance for influencers warns against assuming a platform’s built-in disclosure tool is enough. Say it in the video near the start, for example “I earn a commission if you buy through the tagged products,” and repeat it above the fold in the description.
Auto-tagging adds a twist. When it is switched on, YouTube may review recent uploads and add eligible Amazon tags automatically, so a video filmed with no commercial intent can start earning. Audit every auto-tagged video and add a disclosure wherever one is missing.
Our breakdown of the 2026 FTC disclosure rules for livestreams and short-form video covers wording that still works in a 30-second Short.

7. Measure the YouTube Shopping affiliate program around its blind spots
YouTube Studio reports clicks and estimated revenue, but for Amazon tags it shows aggregate daily revenue, clicks and sales only, never which video or product drove a purchase. Amazon commissions also lock monthly and pay two AdSense cycles later, so January earnings arrive in March.
Work around that blindness with deliberate, boring experiments:
- During a test, publish one newly tagged video per week, so a revenue jump has one likely cause.
- Compare tag clicks on non-Amazon merchants, where reporting is more granular, and use them as a control group.
- Log every video, tagged product and variant in a spreadsheet. When the money lands in spring, you’ll know what was live.
One more habit pays off: export your Studio affiliate report on the first of each month. If YouTube changes the 100% creator split, you’ll have a clean before-and-after record of what the YouTube Shopping affiliate program actually paid you.
Slow payouts are also a reason to spread risk. Our guide to diversifying affiliate income streams in 2026 and our look at TikTok Shop affiliate commission cuts show how the other video platforms compare.

Is the YouTube Shopping affiliate program worth it for a small channel?
Yes, if your videos already show products and your viewers arrive ready to buy: reviews, tutorials, unboxings, desk and kitchen setups. Turning tags on costs nothing, and the current 100% creator split is likely the most generous it will be.
The YouTube Shopping affiliate program is a weaker fit for commentary, gaming and kids-adjacent channels, and it won’t replace ad revenue at 500 subscribers. Treat the first 90 days as data collection, keep your site’s Associates links as the stable base, and scale only the formats that make tags move.
YouTube Shopping affiliate program FAQ
How many subscribers do you need for the YouTube Shopping affiliate program?
You need to be in the YouTube Partner Program and meet its subscriber threshold. In markets with the expanded YPP, that starts at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. The separate 10,000-subscriber rule ended on March 27, 2026.
Which countries can join the YouTube Shopping affiliate program?
As of November 4, 2026, YouTube lists 18: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, the US and Vietnam. Canada and Australia are not included yet.
How much does YouTube Shopping pay per sale?
Each merchant sets its own rate per product. Google’s merchant documentation puts the program median around 15%, with the bottom quarter at 10% or less. A temporary incentive currently passes 100% of merchant commissions to creators.
Can you tag Amazon products on YouTube outside the US?
Amazon tagging is live for eligible US creators with a linked Associates or Influencer account. Amazon announced a UK expansion on November 3, 2026, without a public start date, so UK creators should watch YouTube Studio for the option.
When does YouTube Shopping pay affiliate commissions?
Through AdSense for YouTube, 60 to 120 days after the purchase. Amazon earnings lock monthly and pay two AdSense cycles later, and any return reverses the commission, which can briefly push your balance negative.
Can I put YouTube Shopping affiliate links on my blog?
No. YouTube’s terms prohibit using Shopping affiliate links outside YouTube, including on websites or through redirects, and breaking that rule can cost you affiliate features. Use your own Amazon Associates links on your blog instead.
